Record of filed information requests

The following is a summary of requests submitted by users to report possible gaps in information they have identified. The names of the requestors have been removed out of respect for their privacy.

#001 - May 19, 2010
Make: Chrysler
Model: 300m
Year: 2006
Subject: Just wondering where Chrysler is on the CASIS page? Seems NAFTA has a new web page that Chrysler has available. Also wondering when security information might start to be available? (ball park) if available. Thank you for your time. It is so nice to be able to get the information THANK YOU
Response: Chrysler was a little late opening their access to Canadians so the link from the NATA website was not active until just after this request came in. Requestor was directed to explanation about vehicle security information availability.

#002 - May 31, 2010
Make: Chrysler
Model: PT Cruiser
Year: 2007
Subject: This vehicle was imported from the USA and the vehicle modules have the ability to control the DRL function. However, the dealer has to contact their technical assistance people to download a new flash file to install in to the vehicle's module (TIPM is this instance). I have access the appropriate scanner and access to the manufacturer's website to download the NEW flash file. However, I do not have the ability to have the manufacturer attach the NEW flash file for me to download and install. I have tried contacting our local dealer's service department and was told to just bring the vehicle to them. I have no way of contacting the appropriate parties to attach a new flash file to the VIN of the vehicle that will allow the module (TIPM) to control DRL functions. I have only contacted our local Chrysler dealer's service department and was told to bring the vehilce there.
Response: Since the subject vehicle was imported from the USA, it is not covered by the CASIS agreement. However, the request was forwarded and Chrysler responded in detail within a couple of hours explaining why the requested procedure can only be done by a dealer. It mostly has to do with the fact that the US and Canadian counterparts do not share a common mainframe database of VINs.

#003 - August 3, 2010
Make: Toyota
Model: Any
Year: 2008
Subject : Unable to program keys or immobilizer functions. Unable to reflash any modules. I would like to purchase the Techstream Lite setup from Toyota, and not via a 3rd party at a higher cost. I contacted Toyota at 5:30 PM EST today. I was told Snap On would not release the hardware (Mongoose MFC cable) to Canadians. I also cannot have access to the security professional subscription due to inability to obtain ALOA LSID access from Canada.
Response: Vehicle security information is a work-in-progress, as explained on the vehicle security page of the NATA website. The tool in question was not available to Toyota dealers yet at the time.

#004 - August 6, 2010
Make: Honda
Model: All
Year: 2008
Subject : Unable to perform diagnostics and/or reflashing of any modules. I cannot do my job because I can't purchase the Honda interface for the job. The new interface (MVCI) IS available in the USA, but not in Canada. I understand they are going through a phaseout of the GNA 600 interface, but we should be able to purchase it if needed. They stated distribution is planned for January 2011. I asked about how Honda dealers dealt with this in Canada, and they told me they already had useable scantools...too bad for me and other Canadians huh? One other issue is the programming subscriptions. Under the CASIS agreement, section B, item 2, it states OEMs should offer short term subscriptions. Honda only offers 1 year terms, and the price and ROI on that is not feasible for many shops. One issue you are aware of is the security professional issue, and lack of an ALOA equivalent, and LSID in Canada. I realize NATA is working diligently, but thought it deserved mention once again. Called Honda and discussed tooling purchase and methods of subscribing. More or less was told I'd have to wait.
Response: The GNA600 is not available pending a new MVCI that will be available at a later date. If a tool is required immediately, it may be purchased through the following link "http://mvci.spx.com/ as shown within the American web site. Software subscriptions in both the USA and Canada are currently one year (the same for our dealers) but is currently under review.

#005 - January 12, 2011
Make: GMC
Model: Envoy
Year: 2004
Subject : We diagnosed a faulty instrument cluster on a 2004 GMC Envoy. In order to complete the job we needed what is called a VCI number in order to program the new cluster to the 2004 Envoys computer system. The only way to get this number is through GM. We have a very strong relationship with the GM dealer we use in Saskatoon for our GM parts purchases. They wanted to give us this number due to the fact they know and trust us. General Motors has made it impossible, for them to let this number out. The dealership must prove to General Motors that this vehicle ( the 2004 GMC Envoy ) is in fact in their dealership shop. They are required to give GM the mileage, the service RO/invoice number, and the Service Advisor & Technicians ID that are working on it, thus making it impossible to acquire this number without the vehicle actually being in their service bays. We ended up having to sublet this repair procedure to the dealership, causing our client to be without his vehicle two days instead of just the one day that he brought it into us. My business has every piece of equipment, and technology needed to complete this job properly, and on time. Without access to this number, we lost this job, and possibly lost a client in the process. VCI number - A Vehicle Configuration Index (VCI) is a number representing a valid combination of parts and systems built in a vehicle, including optional equipment. Service Operations uses VCI numbers to identify a unique calibration or group of calibrations. You will need a VCI number to access vehicle calibrations when reprogramming if the VIN of the vehicle is not on the TIS 2000 data CD or, depending on the vehicle, if it has been reconfigured from its original build specifications. TIS to web, and the ACDelco technical support line - was no help.
Response: Those that have a valid subscription to GM TIS 2 Web (through purchase or affiliation as an eligible AC Delco outlet) can obtain a VCI through our AC Delco Techline Support Centre. The number is 888-212-8959. (Their hours are 8AM to 5 PM EST) This support centre keeps detailed records of all calls and for some reason we have no record of a call from [requestor] in regards to this VIN. They tell me that they would have been able to assist in this regard. They did say that [requestor] does have a valid subscription. It could be that [requestor] may have called our AC Delco call centre in Canada, which do not handle VCI's, but they usually indicate to those callers to contact the AC Delco Techline Support Centre.

#006 - August 10, 2011
Make: Dodge
Model: Caravan
Year: 2002

STILL WAITING FOR CASIS TO RESOLVE. IT HAS BEEN OVER A YEAR. ACCORDING TO THE CASIS AGREEMENT IT STATES THAT SECURITY INFO SHOULD BE AVAILABLE SOON! A YEAR AND A HALF IS NOT SOON IT IS CALLED STALLING AND NO UPDATED INFORMATION AS TO HOW TALKS ARE GOING. NO NEW INFO SINCE IT STARTED. #007 - September 9, 2011
Make: Mazda
Model: 3
Year: 2006
Subject : First, VIN is not a good one... I was obligate to write one... you should fix that!!!!!! second I have spent 1 hour trying to fill out the french form, without success!!! I HAVE TRIED 6 TIME to fill the french form (same as that one) but it was written error 404 when I press send. Had to start all over again. YOU SHOULD REALLY FIX THAT TOO!!! so, here is a copy paste, I won't translate in english since I don't have any more time to waste and I am not even sure it will work...
Response: The VIN is not a Canadian vehicle. This is a US vehicle in Canada which presents challenges to our systems. (CASIS only covers vehicles sold in Canada).

Make: Mazda
Model: 6
Year: 2012
Subject:
Check the vehicle Emission & Safety systems with a scan tool for purposes of CVIS certification within BC. Also check the vin of vehicle. Vehicle was brought in from out of province (Saskatchewan). As a BC Motor Vehicle inspector I am required to do this when certifying vehicles from other jurisdictions. Aftermarket scan tool are not up to date enough to handle current model vehicles. It is imperative that I have access to the factory scan tool/software.

IDS Software disc so I could have a newer Version than 75 to use on the IDS system scan tool. Phoned dealer as per Information on Mazda Website. Dealer gave a number to call which privided no response. I have emailed Mazda Canada and Mazda USA with no response. I have followed every step on the Mazda Web sites. They all say tool is in developement. Am I to understand that no tool or software is available and that dealers can not do warranty repairs to new Mazda vehicles?
Response: We are aware of the situation with purchasers of the FORD IDS tool no longer receiving Mazda IDS updates. I have not received contact from [sender] although I have received 2 other contacts and DVD's are in the process of being distributed to them. It is possible that the message was sent to someone who is on vacation and has not yet been forwarded. The next generation tool is set to be released in August and will be available for purchase on the website same as the current Mazda VCM tool. Unfortunately the current tool is on back order. It is on back order for our dealers also.

Note: sender called to say response from Mazda USA received just after this inquiry submitted. They are shipping a disc.

#009 - January 2, 2013
Make: Chrysler
Model: Grand Caravan
Year: 2011
Subject:
I was looking to be able to view Injectors and Coils on a lab scope in regards to a missfire code for #4 cylinder. I could not get a wiring diagram from Chrysler Tech Authority site. Went on Tech Authority web site and renewed my Login info. Looked and could not find wiring diagrams for 2011 Grand Caravan. I then phoned direct to Tech Authority and was told no diagrams available after 2009. So how are we to repair these vehicles. I did eventually get a diagram from ALLDATA by submitting VIN. What would have happened if I wasn't an Alldata subscriber? Why are the wiring diagrams not available on the Tech Authority site?
Response: The VIN provided resolves to a 1992 AD Dodge Ram 5.9L Diesel. We do not support vehicles older than 1996…
See instructions for how to use wiring diagrams for covered models…
